Medieval 1300's Castle with court, Montalcino, Siena – Toscana
Imposing and unique castle from the 1300s, project approved for a conservative and luxury restoration, for sale near Montalcino, south of Siena. Located in an exceptional panoramic position, surrounded by hills of vineyards, oaks, holm oaks and thick scrub, the Castle offers enchanting views of the Crete Senesi and the characteristic landscapes of the lands of Montalcino, which is just 11 km away. An avenue flanked by two very dense rows of centuries-old cypresses leads to the heart of the castle, an imposing brick structure from the 14th century that reaches a height of 18 meters and is composed of two separate blocks with a scarp base and other bodies that develop around a central courtyard in which there is an ancient circular well. The gun openings on the top floor confirm its military nature as a defensive outpost during the long wars between Siena and Florence. After 1453, it became the country residence of a noble Conti family, who further expanded the structure by building a lovely family chapel with an octagonal plan. Despite seven centuries of history, many architectural features and the charm of their era have been perfectly preserved. The interiors preserve the brick walls, the arches, the colonnades, and the ceilings, vaulted or embellished with seventeenth-century frescoes. Renovation works are necessary for recovery for residential and/or hospitality purposes. A recovery project has already been approved with full respect to the landscape and architectural characteristics aimed at safeguarding centuries of history, with care in the choice of materials and the study of decorative details. A project with excellent potential for transforming this medieval jewel into an elegant residence to enjoy with family and friends or to host travelers and memorable events.
