Prestigious medieval castle with scenic panorama, Siena - Tuscany
Apolloni & Blom presents an extraordinary medieval castle for sale in Tuscany. Built between 1200 and 1300 as a defensive fortress, it was first owned by the Cinughi family, then by the Bichi family, who equipped it with valuable furnishings, which were unfortunately lost due to the infamous mercenary captain Gian Giacomo Medici, Marquis of Marignano, author of the defeat of the Republic of Siena in 1555, who was stationed at the Castle. It was subsequently used as a noble country residence. Recent studies hypothesize that the Castle of the Four Towers is the same one depicted in Ambrogio Lorenzetti's Buon Governo frescoed in the Palazzo Pubblico of Siena in 1339. Owned by the same family since 1885, the Castle is spread over four floors above ground and is characterized by four corner towers arranged over six floors, offering spectacular views of the city and surrounding countryside. The Italian Garden surrounds the castle walls, offering views of the Val d'Orcia and the 16 hectares of land with olive trees and vineyards. With a pointed arch, the medieval entrance leads into an internal atrium. A stone staircase, however, leads to the upper floors, which house four apartments with stone fireplaces, 12 bedrooms, and studies, characterized by terracotta floors and large windows that enhance natural light and the view. The towers present unique and evocative environments, while the cellars on the ground floor offer opportunities for transformation into living spaces, receptions, and banquets. A chapel with separate access can be used for private ceremonies. Near the Castle, an ancient barn offers the possibility of conversion, while a small brick building can be considered a country residence. The Castle is a unique property with great potential, whatever its use.
